In October 2019 F1 announced ‘agreement in principle’ to hold a race on a new circuit at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. The first Saudi Arabian Grand Prix will take place on December 5th. Formula 1 has confirmed a new night race will take place on the streets of Jeddah. There were talks that the Brazilian GP at Interlagos would not be carrying on, but that is not the case and it will now be called officially the Sao Paulo Grand Prix and we are happy to hear this as we do love offering our guests the opportunity to enjoy this great event in South America. Miami had hoped to join the 2021 F1 calendar. The Portuguese event in the Algarve had its first showing this year in 2020, but the Turkish event in Istanbul dates back further and returned to the calendar this year for the first time since 2011. There has been some controversy with this venue and one senior figure Hanoi People’s Committee chairman Nguyen Duc Chung has been imprisoned for 5 years because of this and hence it will not probably go ahead in Hanoi, we will have to wait and see what is decided with this date, Istanbul and Imola Portugal reportedly the most likely candidates, but talks with Vietnam are still ongoing. The 23-race schedule has been approved, but there is one race still to be confirmed in Vietnam's place on the proposed date of April 25. Formula One are determined to carry on with their plans despite the problem of the virus throughout the world and we hope so too, not only for ourselves, but for our guests, who we know are eager to get back to supporting their favourite sport. The 2020 season was supposed to be a record breaker with 22 races, but because of the Covid-19 Pandemic it was reduced to only 17, let’s hope there will be no disruption to the schedule in 2021. There have been some slight amendments to the newly expanded Formula one season for 2021. That's why we're happy to give Formula 1 five years to pull this off.The Dates For The 2021 Formula One Season Sure, there's some work that would need to be done. circuits on the Formula One calendar with both drivers and fans, the circuit. Rather than zipping backwards and forwards around the world, it would be good to have the regional races in the same period each year, as much as possible. The sprint is back for the penultimate round of the 2022 F1 season as the series heads to a fan favourite circuit. To pull this off, some races would have to give up their cherished dates for the good of the overall cause. Europe is the dominant force in the F1 calendar, but there is little doubt that the sport needs to get more of a presence in Asia, North America and Middle East. The obvious conclusion is for the World Championship schedule to become much more regionalized. You have to be a passionate fan to get out of bed at four in the morning to watch racing cars. Similarly, afternoon races in Europe make for very early mornings for U.S. A Sunday afternoon race in Hawaii would be in the early hours of Monday morning in Europe and it would be breakfast time in Asia, so viewers would be going to work and not staying home to watch cars racing around palm trees.Īfternoon races in the North American time zones (especially the Pacific time zone) mean late-night viewing in Europe. It might be great to imagine a race in Hawaii, but the time zones don’t work for everywhere. So one has to balance the traditions of the sport, the future ambitions, the climate, the population, its buying power and, of course, the time zones. Rain can happen almost anywhere, but F1 does not need to seek it out. It is also daft to go to places where you know the weather will not be great. Intercontinental tripleheaders (three races in three consecutive weekends) are absolutely not the right idea in an age where the sport wants to be carbon-neutral. The current 23-race schedule has put the strain on the teams with ridiculous logistics. The sport can then open up the bidding for the races that want to join the fun. The concept of a perfect Formula 1 calendar is always going to be a case of what is good for some is not good for others.įormula 1, however, is well-positioned to decide the length of season it wants and the places it wants to go.
